Men’s Devotion – A Man With Friends
Proverbs 18:24 “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
An English publication offered a prize for the best definition of a friend, and among the thousands of answers received were the following: “One who multiplies joys, divides grief”, “One who understands our silence”, “A volume of sympathy bound in cloth”, “A watch which beats true for all time and never runs down”.
But here is the definition that won the prize: “A friend—the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out.”
What a blessing it is to have friends that are willing to run in, when everyone else is running out. Those kinds of friends are hard to find, and being a friend like that is hard to do.
For some reason there are many men that seem to function without any close friends. It may be that we are independent or self-sufficient, which are good qualities. However, as biblical men we need to keep in mind when it comes to friends, that having one isn’t nearly as importnat as being one!
There are plenty of men around you that need your godly influence in their life. Consider that influencing those men for good, and for God, is also an indirect influence on their marriage and family. Your friendship can do a great deal of good, and may actually spoil the devil’s plans for a family on the brink.
Today’s Biblical Manhood Principle: Make friends on purpose.
