A Merciful Father
Luke 6:36 “Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.”
There is no shortage of hard-hearted men. A man that is quick to judge and swift to condemn is easy to find. His prideful heart and calloused sense of justice serve as an exposè of his own guilt.
As biblical men, we must realize the inexhaustible nature of our Heavenly Father’s mercy. Each of us stood guilty as sin before our righteous and just God. However, his eternal mercy flows from Heaven, through Calvary’s Cross, to a river of grace. We have simply been led to the river and invited to drink.
Jesus said in John 7:38 “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
As men, we should be full of mercy. Our wives, children, neighbors, co-workers, and even the casual stranger should be treated with mercy. When we could exact justice, and demand consequences, we should instead prefer mercy. We must remember that river of grace, and let the living water flow through us.
Micah 6:8 “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
Today’s Biblical Manhood Principle: Prefer mercy – especially as a father.
