Acts 20:35 “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
For ex-serviceman James Kilpatrick, of Glendale, California, it was an everyday kindness to share his army coffee and cakes from home with a hungry old French lady. However, that kindness so impressed her, that Jeanne Marshall, 83, of Baccarat, France, whose seven sons were killed by the Nazis, that she willed Kilpatrick $50,000 before her death.
You never know who you are being a blessing to when you live a generous life. But being generous goes against our human nature and the culture we live in. We tend to move past the opportunity to give and find it easier to be tight-fisted.
But Jesus clearly commended the virtue of generosity, not just to the poor, but to our fellow man in general. Remember the Good Samaritan? Jesus asked the question, “who was truly his neighbor”.
As biblical men, we should lead by example, showing others the kindness and generosity that the Lord has shown to us.
Not only being a giver but being hospitable as well. Above all, generously sharing the love of God with everyone around us.
