Titus 2:11–12 “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world”
A man once said to D. L. Moody, “Now that I am converted, must I give up to the world?”
“No,” answered the evangelist, “you need not give up the world; if you give a ringing testimony for the Son of God the world will give you up pretty quick. They will not want you around.”
The word “sober” means to be serious-minded, clear-headed, and not under the influence of anything, like alcohol, drugs, or even untempered emotions.
If there is anything that we as Christian men need to think soberly about, it’s that once we are born again, we no longer belong to this world. Try as you may, you cannot fit in.
Worldly Christians are and should be, shunned by faithful believers, and faithful believers are shunned by this world. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you can have both. The Bible is very clear on this.
However, so many Christian men today are living with stunted spiritual growth, because they are not sober-minded about this. They want to be liked and accepted by the world’s crowd and still be enough of a Christain to go to Heaven someday.
The fence walking, double-minded, wishy-washy, lukewarm Christian man is no example to follow. Step up and start thinking clearly. If you are a Christian, this world rejects you! Stop chasing their validation.
