7 Personal Revival Secrets

| |

I bet you will agree that when you come to the place in your life, that you know you need a spiritual revival, you should be thankful.

Many people never come to that place. Especially men. For whatever reason, men today don’t think they need it. Wrong!

It says in Psalm 85:6 “Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

In this post, there are some revival “secrets”.

Really, with all of the fake revivals that are being manufactured in churches today, this article is all about personal revival.

Before your church will ever see a real revival, if they ever do, revival must start in the hearts and spirits of God’s people. Prayer can be organized by a church committee, but a sincere yearning for God cannot.

Revival must start with YOU! Perhaps the fact that you searched on the subject of revival is an indication of your desire for it.

If that is true….then you NEED to listen to this video!

This video – “The Revival Hymn” – will shake you up spiritually!

7 Personal Revival Secrets

Secret #1: Revival starts with you!

Personal revival does not come by attending a conference or reading great books written by Leonard Ravenhill. While doing those things might cause a spark, it is only God, that can light the fire.

I have heard it said many times that, if you want to experience a revival, then you should “draw a circle around yourself, and pray that God would give revival to everything in that circle”. While it may sound cliche, there is great truth in that idea.

You cannot cause other people to have it, or to even want it. In my experience, there have been times that I sought after it from the Lord, and He gave it in abundance. Yet, other Christians around me were stuck in neutral.

How I wanted for them to experience what the Lord was doing for me. If only God could force it upon them. But God forces Himself on nobody. The Bible tells us that God is searching for people whose hearts are perfect towards Him.

Isaiah 57:15 “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Secret #2: Revival is subjective.

In other words, it is open to the interpretation of different people. We can examine historical revivals, read about them in the Bible, and even listen to others describe it.

It can only be given by God Himself, and identified by Him alone. He alone knows the exact thing that will bring it about in your life. There is no formula. Prayer, fasting, self-denial, and Bible reading for hours on end cannot provoke it.

Only God, and you can determine if you are experiencing it authentically. The product, or outcome of that, will also be determined by God, and by you. For those reasons, I say that it is subjective.

What man can definitively say whether or not it is legitimate? As long as the fruit produced from it is within the will of God, and in line with the scriptures, who can deny it. It is purely subjective, on our part anyway.

Secret #3: Revival is Elusive.

It seems like people will bend over backward trying to force God to bring it. However, history has shown that it will only come when God desires for it to come. It is elusive.

It is a mystery why God chooses to send revival. Historically it seems to revolve around the subject and practice of prayer, but that is not a proven way to induce revival.  There is no proven way, to make it happen.

While it’s truly elusive, there is no reason why you cannot expect to have a personal revival. That is a different matter entirely. God wants us all to be on fire for him, and to seek him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. When we are willing to do that, I believe God is willing to give us personal revival.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Secret #4: Revival is Vital.

What a tragedy it is when God’s people never experience revival.  It is my opinion, that it happens far less then God desires for it too. There aren’t many people that are honestly seeking it, much less people that are even concerned about their Christian life in general.

Is that not the mark of a lukewarm Christian?  Is that not the mark of spiritual stagnation?  Every Christian ought to desire it in their life.  It is vital that we have personal revival so that God can work in and through us to accomplish his will in this world.

Spiritual life and vitality, are the marks of authenticity. It is then that the Scriptures come alive in our hearts. When that occurs in the life of a Christian, you are more like Jesus than ever before. Jesus was the living word.

Secret #5: Revival is God-Centric.

Personal revival is all about God. It is not really about us at all. It is about us being wrapped up in Christ, and doing the work of the father. Many Christians make a great mistake here.

You may think that it is about your feelings, your zeal, and your excitement.  However, it’s actually about being dead to self and alive to Christ!

We see that truth played out in the life of every single apostle. What more can we want, than to have what they had?  Yet, for them it was not personal at all, it was all about God.

Secret #6: Revival is Not Man Made.

This may seem like an obvious point. But there seems to be an ongoing effort by Christians and churches to try to drum up a revival of their own personal choosing. But, it cannot be manufactured.

You can read books about revival, listen to preaching about it, and hear your friends tell you all about it, and still be deader than a doornail spiritually.

I am personally glad that I have experienced it personally, in my own life. They have come at unexpected times, and have always been a great source of encouragement and spiritual energy for me to serve the Lord.

At those times in my life, I experienced the great joy of the Lord, and a renewed passion to see lost people come to Christ.  You cannot make it happen, but you can make yourself spiritually ready for it, by repenting of your sins against God, praying, and asking God, to give you a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your life.

Secret #7: Revival is Real.

There is no doubt that it is real. It has been experienced personally by individuals, as well as by large groups of Christians who have seen God move in miraculous ways.  Yes, you can have it, in a real way, in your life.

Don’t worry about the critics and the naysayers, seek God with all your heart, pray and ask Him to revive you in a very real and spiritual way.  The biggest sign that I have seen in someone’s life, is a renewed and heartfelt commitment of obedience, to the Scriptures.
